Plastic dog crates are pretty much all designed the same way. There are two halves; top and bottom that fit together with some sort of fasteners possibly wing nuts and bolts or something else. There are disadvantages to a plastic dog crate. First it has less ventilation due to the construction being more closed. If you are in a hot area the fact that these crates are more insulated than others could be a problem. The privacy the construction gives some may be isolation to others. The crate has to be stored as is and does not fold up, suitcase style, like some wire crates.
The plastic dog crates are very sturdy and accepted as the crate to use for travel. It is best suited for cooler temperatures. Make sure you get one that is the right size for your dog’s age and breed. Take into consideration your dog’s temperament and your situation when deciding what type of dog crate to get.
