A dog barking is as natural as a dog having to go outside. If, however, your dog is barking constantly there are devices for dog bark control that an owner can use to help train to curb the barking. The most important first step to gaining control over your dog’s barking is to work on the underlying cause of the barking. Whether it is loneliness, boredom or any other causes there is usually a reason for a dog to bark all the time. These items can be used to supplement the training but not as a substitute for understanding the cause.
Dog bark collars seem to be effective in helping with this type of training. If you use the collar for everyday use your dog will learn how to tolerate it therefore rendering the correction worthless. The collar should only be worn during the training session.
There are two types of operational modes to these types of dog barking collars; automatic and manual. The automatic senses the dog barking and delivers the correction. The automatic device is good for when a handler is not present. The manual device works from a remote where the handler delivers the correction at the appropriate time.
There are three types of corrections that are delivered; citronella spray, tone and stimulation. All three corrections work the same way which is to distract the dog when the correction is given.
Citronella Dog Bark Collar
The citronella dog collar squirts some citronella under the dog’s nose. Citronella is a flower extract that dogs do not like and is used in natural mosquito controls.
Tone Dog Bark Collar
The tone collar delivers a loud sound to use as a correction. There are some new sonic collars and devices on the market that are getting good reviews. The newer designs give you control of sensitivity (for auto mode) and a range of frequencies including the ones that dogs hear and humans do not. This device seems to be the most humane of all the solutions.
Stimulation Dog Collar
The stimulation collars or dog e collars for dogs emit either a buzz or a static electrical shock. If you are concerned about using a shock for e collar training the type of collar that buzzes will be a better choice. All manufacturers say that the electric stimulus of a shock collar is no more than a static jolt you get from walking across a carpet and very safe. I have seen some videos on the internet where people put these on and they do not look like it delivers a minimal shock. Best way to decide is to test them yourself before buying.
These are training devices that can be used to help break a compulsive barking habit with your dog. They will not help you solve the problem if you do not get to the reason why your dog is barking and help him with that issue. A dog can get used to a dog bark collar pretty quickly so use these properly and you should enjoy success as well as some quiet. Most places that sell dog supplies will have these collars.
